ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Nydia Armendia-Sánchez is a children’s book author based in California. Her books include NOT FAR FROM HERE (Candlewick Press), FRIDA KAHLO’S FLOWER CROWN: A Picture Book (Abrams Young Readers), MY HUIPIL (Candlewick Press 2026), and VROOM VROOM VAMONOS: FROM SCHOOL BUS TO CHICKEN BUS (Scholastic 2027).

In 2020, Nydia was a We Need Diverse Books ~ Walter Grant Finalist, and in 2021, she was Sustainable Arts Foundation awardee in the “Illustrated Children’s Book” category.

Her storytelling is inspired by her children as well as her Guatemalan and Basque roots. Nydia strives for inclusivity and diversity in all her creative endeavors.
