ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Tomás Rivera (1935-1984) was a pioneering Mexican-American author, poet, educator, and activist, known for his powerful portrayals of the migrant worker experience in his seminal novella ...y no se lo tragó la tierra (...and the Earth Did Not Part). Born to migrant farmworkers in Texas, he rose from poverty through education, earning a Ph.D. and becoming the first Chicano Chancellor of the University of California, Riverside, tirelessly championing access to higher education for underrepresented communities.
